My Day At Wimbledon '16

9 July 2016

It's been a dream of mine since I can remember to go to Wimbledon - of course, I would love to be on Centre Court for a Murray final...but we can't have it all! Instead, my friend and I decided to get in THAT queue and attempt to get grounds tickets - with only 6000 people being let in we had to get there early, and early we did. We made it down to Wimbledon in a short (but slightly more expensive) taxi ride at 5am, settling down on our blanket at 5.30am we were in it for the long haul. Not as long as some though, we were already 2000 in the queue so that was the perfect time for us to get there and get a ticket. Roll on five hours and a fair few heavy showers of rain and we were finally near the gates into this historic British ground.

After a few photo's being taken, we made our way over to Court 12, one of the bigger courts, ready and waiting to watch Tsonga, however the rain really wasn't playing ball so we waited for four hours. But finally got to see him and a great match. By this time it was already 4pm and the rain was coming down again (classic Britain) so we made our way over to Henman Hill/ Murray Mount to look at the only game that was on at that time, Serena Williams on Centre Court. With the light dwindling, we still managed to see a few more games of tennis from the likes of John Isner and Lleyton Hewitt. Next year I will actually apply for tickets to see if I can get a day on Centre Court, but if you're thinking of going to Wimbledon tomorrow (woo Murray final) or next year here's a few things that may help you...

1. Take as must food and drink as you physically can, as you can imagine it's super expensive there but they let you take a sizeable bag into the grounds with you.
2. Be prepared for all weather's (pretty self explanatory in England)
3. Get there as early as you can
4. Take a blanket to sit on, you're in there for the long haul

And most of all, have fun! It's a surreal, amazing experience!

  1. I really want to go to Wimbledon! I didn't realise you had to go quite so early - 5am is crazy. I bet you loved it though.
